We offer many services to new mums without the need for referral.
Pelvic floor assessment – regardless of the type of birth you have had, a pelvic floor assessment is vital to ensure optimal recovery post-birth and to minimise the likelihood of further problems of incontinence and prolapse in the future.
Assessment & rehabilitation of DRAMS (abdominal muscle separation) – with the use of real time ultrasound to identify and train your core we are able to design a strengthening & recovery program to help improve abdominal separation & regain pelvic support and control. We develop a safe and specialised home-based pilates exercise program or an in-class pilates program.
Back, neck, pelvic pain and coccyx pain are common postnatal complaints; during pregnancy and birth there are many factors that can cause pain – these include the hormone relaxin leading to persistent joint hypermobility, breastfeeding can be a major source for persistent back, neck and shoulder pain, a higher number of pregnancies, back pain prior to pregnancy, back pain in previous pregnancy, etc. At MPFP, we assess the causes of your pain; provide specialised treatment and home exercise program to regain strength.
Scarring and pain from episiotomy or perineal tears – At MPFP, we enhance your perineal recovery, help improve any bladder, bowel or sexual problems and optimise your pelvic floor function for the future. We manage any soft tissue damage and scar tissue, then progress to your exercise recovery program. We also provide advice regarding healthy bowel and bladder habits, lifestyle factors and general exercise.
Postnatal fitness & Pilates – MPFP offer a range of Bub & child friendly classes aimed to regain your fitness & strength in a safe and controlled environment, whether it be a baby friendly pilates, or our baby bootcamp.
Mastitis, engorgement, blocked milk ducts – this is caused by a build-up of milk, blood and other fluids in the breast tissue. In some cases, a mother’s breasts can become very hard, swollen and tender and her nipples become flattened and taut. It can be painful for the mother and make it difficult for a baby to attach to the breast. Treatment can consist of therapeutic ultrasound, lymphatic drainage & breastfeeding education and advice.
